Arliss ALERT! Double Feature: THE GREEN GODDESS and DISRAELI – Tuesday, February 18 at 6 AM EST

TCM aka Turner Classic Movies – is showing Mr. A’s first two talkies this Tuesday, February 18th, starting at 6 AM eastern time (THE GREEN GODDESS) and then at 7:15 AM his Academy Award winning performance in DISRAELI (1929).
Not to be missed!

  3. I just want to thank you for running this blog. I run TCM in the background while I clean. I had to stop sweeping in the middle of “Disraeli” and sat down and watched it twice. I don’t have many days off but when I do now I try to watch an Arliss film so I can get through his catalogue. He’s a brilliant actor! – and a really lovely person. Thank you for your work.

    • I appreciate your kind words, Sarah. Mr. A was also involved in the scripting of his films and other aspects of filmmaking. He got Warners to agree to film the script in chronological order as much as practical and, more surprisingly, to pay the cast to rehearse the script for a week then give a performance before an audience as if it were a play. Bette Davis was inspired by this when she made two films with Arliss but even when she became a super star, Warners would not agree to a rehearsal week. Bob
